Politician(s) lobbied: Darragh O'Brien (Minister), Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment
Intent: To highlight the importance of fairness and the principles of a Just Transition in the scheme’s redesign. The obligation must be ambitious but achievable, and sufficiently flexible to keep costs down for both domestic and business consumers located outside urban areas. ::To also highlight that meaningful energy efficiency improvements can be achieved through more cost-effective alternatives, for example by installing an efficient renewable-ready gas boiler, undertaking targeted fabric upgrades, and adding solar PV, many D rated rural homes can be brought to a B2 rating for a fraction of the cost of installing a heat pump solution.
