Desire to secure meeting of CEO of IOP with An Taoiseach

Potential visit of CEO and hoping to meet Minister to discuss importance of physics

IOP have a conference at the end of February and we are inviting the Minister and hopefully we can meet that way to make it convenient for everyone. We are hoping to initiate communication with the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and meet the Minister to discuss policy issues in relation to physics and particular with regard to a recent accession of Ireland as an associate member of CERN which Minister Lawless and department were directly involved in.

Emailed a selection of TD's across parties representing Dublin Bay South and Dublin Bay North in order to start a process of contact from the Institute of Physics, the aim being to have active parliamentary channels with a view particularly to discussing areas related to Education, Training and Skills. We would like to contact these representatives to start with and we may need to contact any relevant representatives in the future as any physics related issues may arise.

Discussion about the progress of Ireland's CERN membership and other areas of physics impacted policy e.g. quantum. this included a number of emails to make the arrangements

Emails to Senators and TD to seek to discuss and offer input to party manifesto development.

Meeting with Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. This involved emails to arrange the meeting.

Ongoing contact re Irish CERN membership and queries about the new research agency, Taigdhe Eireann.

To engage with the Minister Peter Burke about future IOP skills event and potential participation or departmental representation.

I contacted Aisling Dolan who is a spokesperson on Science matters in Fianna Fáil to try to get a further indication with the party as to the level of interest in physics related matters and whether they have them included in their manifestos.

I contacted Annie Hoey of Labour as a Science spokesperson in order to have an idea of inclusion of this topic for their intentions in their upcoming manifesto

I contacted Pauline O'Reilly of the Green Party to ask if they are considering physics based issues in their green energy policies which will in turn link to their manifestos

I made contact a number of times to gauge interest in the subject matter with this T.D. and also to try to arrange a meeting face to face with that T.D.
