Intent: The purpose of the briefing was to highlight to over 75 elected representatives in attendance the need for immediate action to support the broadcasting sector. Implementation of the Future of Media Commission recommendations have been delayed and in turn previously agreed schemes to support the sector have been delayed. The briefing was intended to highlight that these schemes are also not fit for purpose and require amendment. ::The Chair of IBI also called for reform of the current Sound & Vision Scheme, a reduction in the Broadcasting levy which is levied on broadcasters to fund the running costs of the regulator, and amendments to the proposed Gambling Regulation legislation tabled for implementation later this year.
