Intent: We strongly urged the EU to remove the 50% tariff on U.S. whiskey and spirits before it takeseffect in mid-April, thus avoiding severe impacts on Irish spirits exports to the US. We wouldalso urge the EU to abandon any tariff on ‘Casks’.We would recommend that any countermeasure tariffs be aligned to the sectors directlyaffected by the US tariffs, notably steel and aluminium and/or related categories. We believethat this would be a fairer and more appropriate ‘like for like’ approach.
