Politician(s) lobbied: Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Transport; Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Environment, Climate and Communications; Charlie McConalogue (Minister), Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine; Dara Calleary (Minister of State), Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment
Intent: Exclusion of extra-EU product from the RTFO and RHO.
Methods: Email, Submission, Meeting
Details & Methods:
Method | Description |
---|---|
— | The Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation and proposed Renewable Heat Obligation are not functioning due to lack of supervision of certification scheme ISCC. Instead of genuine sustainable biofuels - with benefits for Ireland such as farm incomes |
— | agri-food sustainability and energy independence - the majority of biofuels are from palm oil falsely labelled as palm oil mill effluent and used cooking oil. Ireland's Biomethane Strategy ambitions have no hope in the face of such unfair competition. |

2024-01-08
Politician(s) lobbied: Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Transport; Brian Leddin (TD), Dáil Éireann, the Oireachtas; Paschal Donohoe (Minister), Department of Finance; Charlie McConalogue (Minister), Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
Intent: Reduced carbon emissions in the transport sector without fraud. Ireland relies nearly exclusively on used cooking oil for renewable energy in the transport, the bulk of which is actually virgin palm and soy oil fraudulently labelled as used cooking oil. We seek to have this abuse prevented.
Methods: Meeting, Email
Details & Methods:
Method | Description |

Methods: Email, Submission, Social Media, Meeting
Details & Methods:
Method | Description |
---|---|
— | Consultation on renewable fuels regulation |
— | the worrying extent of fraud in supply chains to Ireland |

— | low carbon plant protein opportunities accompanying bioenergy |
— | and carbon removals accompanying bioenergy. |
2022-09-01
Politician(s) lobbied: Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Environment, Climate and Communications; Timmy Dooley (Senator), Seanad; Darren O'Rourke (TD), Dáil Éireann, the Oireachtas
Intent: We seek rapid uptake in the use of sustainable renewable fuels, bringing not just climate benefits but also benefits to the economy and the environment, for instance through greater use of domestic waste to produce biofuels.
Methods: Email, Event / Reception
Details & Methods:
Method | Description |
---|---|
— | Ireland is facing enormous challenges regarding carbon emissions reductions in the transport sector. We bring deep insight on renewable fuels |
— | trading conditions |
— | sustainability and risks and we seek to inform policy makers and raise levels of expertise in Ireland. Specifically |
— | we assist with the introduction of E10 petrol and biomethane in transport |
— | and with the improvement of sustainability criteria for all biofuels. |
2022-01-05
Politician(s) lobbied: Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Environment, Climate and Communications; Eamon Ryan (Minister), Department of Transport
Intent: Ireland could and should using more biofuels in transport under its climate programmes. We use only a fifth of the amount of crop biofuels as the EU on average and this is holding us back. Ireland is wholly dependent on imported used cooking oil for its transport policy and this is unsustainable due to lack of supply of cooking oil and due to fraud in the sector, with virgin palm oil illicitly entering the supply chain. We seek balance and quality.
