The Irish Farmers' Association - IFA

2023-09-16

Intent: To highlight that the proposed Greenway would sever and divide most farms along the route and that this is totally unacceptable. Severance and division of farms will not work and must be reviewed by the Cork and Waterford County Councils.::To demonstrate that the proposed Greenway would be made up of 88% private, active farmland and 12% public lands. Farmers own and use most of this land where the abandoned railway line existed. This is part of their farms and in many cases incudes private houses and farmyards.::To highlight the Councils' failure to understand the impact of a Greenway severing or dividing active farms.::To raise the issues of lack of privacy, security, litter, animal disease, wildlife and the environment with both Council's.::To highlight that the IFA has negotiated a Code of Best Practice for Greenways with the Government and their opposition to the issues of severance of farms or compulsory purchase orders (CPO's) for amenity projects like Greenway's.
