Intent: Communicate the concerns raised by migrant women who have shared their asks with us of the government. One key issue raised was the lack of awareness by healthcare workers of the practice of FGM. As a group (the National Steering Committee for the Elimination of FGM) we wanted to raise the need for a cross-departmental national plan to address female genital mutilation.
Details: ActionAid were invited to speak about our work with regards to FGM in Ireland to the FGM Working Group of the Oireachtas Women's Caucus on July 7th, 2021. We were there to speak, along with our colleagues from AkiDwA and IFPA about the actions required for the elimination of FGM.
