Intent: To express the Chamber’s strong support for the Athlone 2040 project, an ambitious plan to grow Athlone into a sustainable, 100,000-population, 15-minute green city by 2040. We sought to reinforce political backing for the initiative, highlight its potential for economic and community transformation, and encourage continued commitment and investment from national and local representatives.

Intent: The overarching goal was to secure political support and policy clarity to strengthen the Killarney Coffee Cup Project, ensure local actions complement national legislation, and advocate for timely introduction of the Latte Levy to create a consistent regulatory environment for businesses and consumers.
The Chamber President sought to outline the objectives and progress of the Killarney Coffee Cup Project, a local sustainability initiative aimed at reducing reliance on single-use takeaway cups within the Killarney area. The meeting also aimed to address the current legislative gap regarding disposable cups, often referred to as the “Latte Levy,” and to seek Government support or clarity on future regulatory plans. - Meeting
Intent: INTO calls for a two-point reduction in primary class sizes this year. This would require 750 teaching posts many of which would not be new posts but rather would be retained posts that otherwise will be lost.Reducing class sizes by two pupils would have a transformative effect on primaryeducation. It would allow teachers to better respond to the wide and evolving range of pupil's needs in classrooms and assist with the enactment of the new curriculum.
Details: Letter to Tanaiste Chambers regarding report in the Irish Times today (01/10/25) that decisions his Department may be obstructing the hiring of additional teachers and staff, with the result that progress towards reducing class sizes could be delayed.
