Intent: A public lecture at NUI Galway (and a meeting) with civil engineer, Nicole Lazarus. Her lecture presented the lessons learnt in implementing the One Planet Living principles in the development of NW Bicester, the UK’s first eco-town. Nicole is Bioregional's Oxfordshire Programme Manager.::Given the National Planning Framework's goal of growing the population of the Northern and Western Region of Ireland by between 160,000 and 180,000 people, and Galway City up to 45,000, by 2040, the West Region felt that the information exchange would be most useful for locally elected representatives and local authority key staff.

Details: Provision of information in relation to the Cloosh Valley forest fire, namely status updates on the fire itself and the logistics of the emergency response by the Galway Wind Park project team

Intent: To present an overview of Galway Wind Park Community Fund Proposals.::The purpose of the event was to get feedback from the community on proposals for the structure of the fund. The event was also an opportunity to hear feedback from the community on the project in general.::In addition, the highlights of the Galway Wind Park Sustainability Impact Report were also presented, this report sought to measure the social, economic and environmental benefits delivered by the project, which include powering the equivalent of 89,000 houses with green energy, the creation of 1,657 years of employment, spend of €20m with local suppliers and a 43% and 63% proportion of grid and civil contractors (respectively) living locally.::Galway Wind Park Sustainability report is available at the following address http://ireland.sse.com/media/18737/Galway%20Wind%20Park_Sustainability%20Impact%20Report_WEB.pdf

Details: Galway Wind Park held a public launch for a consultation on the proposed structure of its community fund for the Galway Wind Park on 8 July. The event was open to the public and took place at The Boat Inn, Main Street, Oughterard.
