Held in association with Engineers Ireland's North East region, the Future Energy Forum in May at Dundalk IT, aimed to provide members and guests with the opportunity to explore Ireland’s future energy supply and demand; the latest technologies and solutions driving Ireland’s transition to low carbon energy use; and the impact of current and future energy needs on business and home. Intent: Suckler cow scheme - In order to improve incomes and stabilise numbers, IFA proposes a targeted payment of €200 per suckler cow, structured under environmental and animal welfare measures in the CAP Rural Development Programme and financed predominately from national resources and savings from existing RDP schemes. Based on payments to about 50,000 suckler farmers with 900,000 cows, the scheme would require funding of €180m pa.::Areas of Natural Constraint - IFA proposes that funding for the ANCs is increased by a further €73m to bring the total budget for the scheme to €300m.
